homegrown's tribute to the king of pop

i was at the homegrown tribute to michael jackson show last night and needless to say, i enjoyed myself :D the performances last night were really really good.

homegrown's tribute to the king of pop

a disclaimer: i will never ever consider myself as a huuuuuuge michael jackson fan. i didn't cry when i found out he passed on. shocked yes. because it was like, he just dropped dead. and while he was alive, at one point, i did criticize some of eccentric lifestyle so i'm not ever gonna deny that. i do recognize him as a big influence in the music and entertainment scene - everyone does.

anyway. on to the tribute show.
in a nutshell, it was basically a bunch of local acts - young and old - doing covers of michael jackson's songs. there were jin hackman, transient vortex, happy nightmare, ferhad, MJ Nalan (the more famous michael jackson impersonator in malaysia), the otherside orchestra, melissa indot, deja voodoo spells, pure vibracions, love me butch, ahmad izham omar and liyana. IN THAT ORDER!

set list:
1) jin hackman - PYT
jin did his own hip hop version of PYT with his own message to the world. it was pretty good. sad to say the couple next to me didn't think so. but lollll his intro video was the lulz. but even after 3298047398479238 drummer change, they sounded awesome. KEEP THE NEW DRUMMER JIN! haha!

2) transient vortex - rock with you
michael jackson meets electronica. it was good but seriously, music like that while everyone's sitting down is not exactly fun. i like myself a bit of electronica so transient vortex was win. :D

3) happy nightmare - ABC
lololol honestly, the vocalist reminds me of a malaysian, probably less activist-ish version of zack de la rocha. even his voice sounds like him. but they did an awesome job covering the jackson 5 song :D

4) ferhad - man in the mirror
he did a medley at first but the ended it with man in the mirror. it's so scary how similar his voice is to michael's voice so it was really really good. and that's the first time i saw someone bring it 4 male backup vocals lol!

5) MJ Nada danced for us and omg he's so old now. he's been performing as an MJ impersonator for agessssss.

6) the otherside orchestra - thriller
my heart filled with glee and i wanted to asplode with excitement and go up on stage and dance. what. it's thriller. how the fuck can you not get an automated reaction from listening to thriller.

7) melissa indot - smooth criminal
she did the alien ant farm version with deja voodoo spells. which was new considering she's more of a pop singer. but it was good and lulzy when she whipped out the big mickey mouse white glove XD

8) deja voodoo spells - billie jean
emo metal version of billie jean yessss. my dream come true *__*

9) pure vibracions - they don't really care about us
reggae version of the song WOOOOOOORKS i love it amg.

10) love me butch - beat it
OKAY FANGASMS. seriously. i loved it so much i wanted to headbang like crazy. most definitely my favorite performance of the night. hands down no competition. i want to take screaming lessons from syarul reza thanks.

11) ahmad izham omar and liyana - smile
they played this because jermaine jackson sang it during the memorial concert. it was really nice. and amg ahmad izham everything also you can do arrr.

pictures!

MTV World Stage Roadshow - and it's a wrap!

so after 10 colleges, it's over. here were our stops:

1) SEGi University College, Kota Damansara
2) HELP University College, Damansara
3) Sunway University, Sunway
4) Taylor's College, Sri Hartamas
5) Taylor's College, Subang
6) UCSI, Cheras
7) APIIT, Bukit Jalil (we weren't around)
8) Metropolitan College, Subang
9) KDU, Damansara
10) Limkokwing, Cyberjaya (we weren't around)

8 out of 10 colleges. crazy shit. and my job was basically to video all the performances. i have 3 tapes left with me that i have yet to capture. i'll do it tomorrow of course, considering i have to have them uploaded by sunday night.

...or else joel will have my head in a paper bag. or something. there's always something evil behind all that silence. i'm sure of it.

we made a few new friends on the roadshow and had our share of fun while working :D thanks to jeremy who covered for us during APIIT and LUCT, since we couldn't be there to take photos. i hope you did a good job and i hope you had fun going to like, 5 out of 10 colleges. haha. greedy fucker.

UCSI is by far, the best campus. not in terms of performances or sales, but the campus ambassadors. you guys are fucking hilarious, it's not even funny anymore lol.

sunway had the most performances. thanks to you guys i've been uploading videos for the past week lol!

taylor's hartamas was the most convenient - there were vending machines where we set up camp LOLOLOLOL.

i was more busy taking videos so i'm only gonna post up some of the photos. it could either be me or jeremy's doing lawl.

ye, makin tua, makin bosan entri-entri blog ini. i'm turning 22 in three weeks. whoopee.

Michael Jackson Tribute concert post when i wake up lawl.

Heezy Metal.

i am so going to embarrass myself for doing this but:

a while back, helped jin do the rock chorus for one of his tracks, "heezy rock". i didn't sound that good on that day, to be honest. i was exhausted from the roadshow, going to the bestie's office to capture video, going to grandma's for dinner and then the recording later that night.

yeah. it was pretty exhausting. but hey, you can hear a clear recording of my demon voice this time :p

yes yes the mic i had was at a low volume. maybe it was on purpose, maybe not. the volume of my voice was definitely not "too low", i was screeching till my face went all red and all that crap. maybe the person who mixed it thought it would be better if it was at that volume. personally i rather it stay at that volume because i ran out of breath most of the time. so it really covered my fuck ups and save jin's reputation lawl.

but lawl. jin swore in the end. yesss.

i haven't been updating with photos i know. i actually have a whole e-stack of it but just really never got around to edit or upload any. i'm either too lazy or too tired - there's a thin line between the two possibilities.

i have two tapes to capture and have no idea where to run to. joel's so gonna have my head for uploading taylor's subang, UCSI, Metropolitan and KDU college videos so late -_- dies. my internet isn't being very generous either. youtube keeps on failing when i upload -_-
